HOW TO PLAY

Disclaimer: Multi-language rulebooks are translated using an AI translator, for this reason, if something seems confusing or not clear, please refer to the main English version below.

TEAMS

1v1: One player per side.

Teams: Each side is a team of up to 3 players per team. Each team will take turns, alternating until a full rotation is completed. Teammates must not coach each other while playing. If a teammate tries to coach the player playing, that player loses his turn on that team rotation. If it happens again a Penalty kick must be taken against that team.

COMPONENTS

1 Board mat    1 Soccer Ball chip    7 Blue pawns    7 Orange pawns    12 Yellow chips    2 Red chips

SETUP
  • Each team places 6 “pawns” ( orange or blue) in their half of the board and 1 on the Substitution
    space
. In the Goal kick area , you can only have 1 pawn at any moment during the game as a goalkeeper.
  • The 6 pawns on the board can be placed in any configuration but cannot be placed in the special spaces of the board (Sprint zones or Long pass spaces ). The center row is neutral ground and off-limits when starting the match.
  • Flip a coin or the ball chip   to determine which team will start. The winner will put the ball on top of one pawn and start from the center of the board.

.

GAME TURN
  • Alternating turns, each team will be able to do 1 of 4 things per turn: Move, Pass, Kick, or Steal.
  • Moving: You can move one pawn at a time in your turn, the pawn can move in any direction 1 space. Only when you land on a Sprint zone will you be able to move forward up to 3 spaces inside the sprint zone.

  • Pass or Kick: You can pass the ball between your pawns. The pawn receiving the ball must be within 2 spaces from the pawn passing the ball.
When you kick the ball, you can either kick it to the opponent’s goal or any empty space; just as long as it is within two spaces or closer.  Blocked Spaces   are out of reach to avoid giving the offensive team an unfair advantage when trying to score.  Important: When you kick the ball toward the goal, the spaces in between must be empty.
  • Long pass: If you are in a Long pass space , you can pass the ball to any pawn or empty space within that half of the board – including the central row of spaces.
  • Chain pass: If you have 2 or more pawns within 2 spaces of each other, you can do a chain pass between them. A Chain pass cannot be combined with a Long pass or Kick.
  • Steal: You can steal the ball by moving forward, backward, or to the sides to gain possession of the ball and your opponent’s pawn place. Your opponent’s pawn must switch spaces with you and cannot steal the ball back during their next turn. Important rules when stealing the ball:
    • Diagonal steal: You can steal the ball doing a diagonal movement but it will result in a Yellow Card warning. Caution: If a team makes a diagonal steal inside his Penalty area   that will result in
      a
      Penalty kick.
      • Yellow Card: Received when successfully stealing the ball while executing a diagonal movement. A yellow chip must be placed on top of the team’s pawn.
      • Red card: Received when successfully stealing the ball while executing a diagonal movement after the pawn has been tagged with a Yellow Card warning.  The pawn will immediately be expelled from the game and the team must continue without 1 pawn. Place the red chip on top of that team’s pawn and remove it from the board. Leave the ball in the empty space left by the expelled pawn.

If the goalkeeper is expelled with a Red card , you can move any pawn on the board to the goalkeeper position before the next turn.

ADDITIONAL RULES
  • Scoring: When a team successfully moves or kicks the ball inside the opponent’s goal. After the goal, both teams restart their formations and the team that didn’t score starts with the ball from the center.
  • Blocked spaces : Spaces marked with an “X” cannot be used to score.
  • Substitutions : Each team has 1 substitution pawn (Sub) that they can use at any moment in the game before or after their turn. Pawns with “Red cards” cannot be substituted and the substitution cannot be used to fill an empty space of an expelled pawn.
  • Penalty kick: The team with the ball must be placed at the Penalty spot  facing the opponent’s goalkeeper. Both teams now proceed to play a mini-game of modified rock-paper-scissors using 1, 2, or 3 fingers that represent the 3 spaces of the goal. If both serve a different number that counts as a goal. If both teams serve the same number, that is a goalkeeper’s save and keeps the ball.
Note: If the goalkeeper is expelled with a red card at the moment of the penalty, another playing pawn must take its place before the penalty kick.
  • Forfeit match: A team with 4 pawns expelled with a Red card automatically loses the match. The team not forfeiting wins.

GAME DURATION
  • Golden goal: First team to score a goal wins. Approx. 15-20 min
  • Goal limit: Both teams agree beforehand to a fixed amount of goals to win. Approx. 30+ min, 3 goals match.

TIPS
  • Don’t focus only on moving the pawn with the ball. How you move and position the other pawns is just as important as the one with the ball.
  • If an area gets too crowded try to move, open, and back up your pawns. Don’t be afraid to backtrack and try new strategies.

FAQS

General

Well it’s me, Hi! 👋 My real name is Juan Marcano and I’m an Art Director and Visual/3D designer based in Florida, USA. Originally from Puerto Rico and obviously very passionate about Soccer ⚽.

“Futbolito” is a spanish word for “little or small soccer match”.

Stands for “Futbolito Boardgame”

Yes, at the moment it is produced solely by me, for this reason it is produced in small quantities.

Not at all, even though FBG is a soccer-based game, you do not need to know anything about soccer to play. It was designed with that in mind so anyone can play it and have fun.

FBG is a quick, family-friendly, strategy game. Very similar to how you play chess but with a little soccer twist. At the end of the day, soccer is field chess, right?

As of right now, FBG is available through Amazon, here is the link.

You can do it directly through Amazon, they will take care of issues with your order or refund. Anything else you can contact me and I will respond in 24 hours.

As of right now, yes, I am a one man operation so please be patient if I don’t respond to a question as quickly as expected or if the restock takes a little bit longer.

Gameplay

Yes, since landing in a “Sprint Zone” allows you to move as many spaces as you want inside the zone, you can steal the ball that way.

Yes, the goalkeeper can move outside the “Goal Kick Area” if the player wants, leaving the goal wide open.

No, since the spaces can only be used to make a long pass.

Not technically but yes in the sense that you are limited to the amount of pawns in your team, for example; the longest chain pass will be 6 continuous passes.

Not at all, like in real soccer, players are most of the time moving without the ball, that’s where the real strategy is, moving the pawns without the ball.

Technically they are, like in real soccer you can make a goal doing a pass and pass the ball just kickin it.

In the real game if you get a yellow card that means you committed a foul, for this reason the opposite team gets the ball, in FBG since there is no actual “foul” calls, to keep the game challenging and quick, the player making the “Diagonal steal” keeps the ball although it will received the yellow card as warning anyways.

Since the “Goal” spaces are outside the boundary of the actual pitch, doing a goal shot from those spaces will be unfair since none of the players can do anything about it to block the shot.

Like in the real game, you cannot play if you don’t have 60% or more of your players on the pitch.
